_Lebensfreude: zest for life, joie de vivre, soulfulness, high spirits._
What the hell is LEBENSFREUDE? Well the Americans use it to describe speed junkies. But it’s also a term for superlatives. For the music business Lebensfreude represents the same as the Fiat Multipla does for an industrial designer: it’s arguably the most hip techno label in the world. By the way some people also call it the loudest, rockiest and most untalented movement of our time. This short introduction tries to unravel the truth from the fiction.
…it all started in October 1989: The cold war just finished and in the Prussian underground Lebensfreude saw the light of the day. From pastor son to drug addict. With such a heavy burden to carry around LEBENSFREUDE is finding its own way. With the release of a Sweetcandy Maxi in 2005 they really started to be en vogue. A short time later they hired out to Institution Ruede Hagelstein and proved very successful with their “Afterhour Szenario”.
With DJ Gunne and Vincent Vega joining Lebensfreude the label’s rebirth into the techno world of 2007 is sealed. They have the noble ambition to revive the heavy biker-house and to speed up the ACID HOUSE FAKTOR again. LEBENSFREUDE is going back to its roots before the AFTERHOUR time. It never was a punk record label. It only ever held contempt for the shabby punk style. It preferred bearded guys in studded, leather uniforms with helmets and a mixer up their bum.
One of those proletarian kaputniks, arse full of rock who just can’t help themselves but have to get it all out with their samplers. A label evening becomes a PLAYBOY party: boozing, bellowing and fucking – without guilt.
The artists of LEBENSFREUDE are also doing ads for life insurances, play Hellraiser III and small roles in a porno with John Wayne Bobbit.
Over the years LEBENSFREUDE remained true to its style and never lost sight of its goal to rock the world. “A good mix should never be longer than what it takes to get down a beer”, was one of the official press releases. And even though the label adopted Berlin as home its guys are counted as the last true electronic rockers after SCOOTER and the temporary reunited „Eco and the Bunnymen“can’t pull it off anymore.
