How did you come up with your DJ name?
When I used to “try” to skateboard, I had these trucks called Destructos. And you can figure out the rest.
What was your first DJ name?
DJ Poopiepants. That was my name for 2 hours at Guitar Center San Jose.
What was your first DJ setup?
Two Techincs 1200 MK3’s, Vestax 05pro2 mixer, and Shure M44G’s.
Who were/are your influences coming up as a DJ?
A lot of the local DJs were very inspiring. Just to name a few, 3 Style attractions, Down Low, Fingerbangerz, Masterfaders, LMNOP, Prodigy & the obvious 5th Platoon, Beat Junkies and Skratch Piklz.
How would you describe your style?
Simple and Funky.
Favorite song/artist?
Too many!
But my top 2 are…
Nas- One Love
Sade- Your Love is King
What song do you always have to play at a gig and why?
At a Jiggy gig I always have to play “Top Down” by Zion-I.. Why you may ask? Because I got love for the Bay and the beat is banging! Yadidamean! At a hip hop gig, I always have to play “Fortified Live” by Reflection Eternal. Classic!
Besides DJing, what other activities do you enjoy?
Schooling all you little kids on the basketball courts and ironing my clothes. Gotta stay fresh with my creased shirts and my starch.
What was your first ever DJ gig?
My uncle Richard’s house. All I had were 16 Lethal Weapon records. FYI, it wasn’t a paid gig.
Describe your best and worst experience at a gig.
I think everyone’s best experience is rocking a crowd. So my favorite crowd rocking experience happened in New York. Forgot the name of the venue. My worst was spinning at Puma. When I played “My Cheri Amor” by Stevie Wonder(Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the song) a girl went up to me and told me to change it because it was putting her to sleep. The bad thing was Boogie Ronsta was with me so he was clowning the whole time.
Favorite food?
Kinds: Filipino, Korean, Thai and Mexican. My favorite dish is Palabok(Filipino dish) with hella pork grinds and lemon.
Favorite after hours spot to eat after a gig is…
Taco Bell and if I’m in San Jose I’ll eat at La Vics(Taco Spot) or the local 24 hour Pho or Korean BBQ joint.
What advice do you have for up and coming DJs?
Buy records! Then after you buy records, develop a style(No BITING), then after you develop a style, pay your dues! Then after you pay your dues, learn how to battle or skratch. And after you learn how to battle, get your mixtape bars up! Then after you get your mixtape bars up, get your network on. That’s it. Or you can take the shortcut from all those steps and buy a laptop and a digital mixing software.
