DJ Arkum's Bio
Self Taught DJ & audio engineer based out of Oceanside, Ca originally from Owensboro, Ky. And still going strong. The years behind me should prove that.
Though they never played any instruments, my parents always nurtured a musical home environment. And encouraged my love of music.
In school I also maintained 2nd seat clarinet player and also played drums. Wanting to learn more instruments to tune my craft.
My Audio engineering experience expands 18yrs.
My DJ experience now expanding over 10yrs
Began at a very young age of 13 years old moving equipment for my father who was a broadcast engineer with the local radio & T.V. station. This is where I learned how to start putting together sound systems. And equipment knowledge. Took 2 ½ yrs of from 18-21 to serve in the Marine Corps during which my obsession with Drum & Bass started.
I began DJing in 2001 as DJ Pygpen, later changing my name to DJ Arkum. And focused solely on D&B. Also played only vinyl for my first 8yrs. Honed skills at house parties & underground events around the country during my 2yrs worth of educational sessions. One of which was a 6mth after hour residency at Club 101 in Owensboro, Ky.
Returning to San Diego in 2003 I teamed up with DJ Slinky to help form Organized Noize SD, a promotional company and sound-system provider, responsible for underground desert events from 2004-2007. In that time we also handled sound for Fire Tribe Ent., Drumz, Freebass Audio, the Gone-Jah Men,and various others were in demand of our services. Upon parting ways with ONSD I began to venture into other genres. Experimenting with Breaks & House before leaning towards down tempo House, having been inspired by Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz Sessions.
After taking a 6mth hiatus in 2008 to adjust to Serato and build a digital library, I made my way into the mainstream markets playing Hip-Hop shows with DJ Robi & B-Dub at various locations in San Diego County and North San Diego County including the Firewater Saloon in Oceanside. Where I have planted strong roots. DJ Robi teamed up for almost 2yrs before deciding to try my hand at some solo business. It was at this time that I was picked up by Davina's Cabo Grill & Cantina to handle their rooftop happy hour. I currently maintain 4 days a week with Davinas Cabo Grill & Cantina spinning Reggae, Rock & Old-School Jams Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday from 5-9pm. I am happy with my current position and get rave reviews from Management and cliental a like.
I am ready to venture into all kinds of different markets around San Diego County and beyond,
I have an extensive knowledge in sound systems and currently own one of my own very extensive system I can and will provide for entertainment
