It all started in the early 90's when I used to tag along with my cousins and friends at their mobile DJ gigs - house parties, school dances, weddings, etc. Soon after, I learned how to mix hip hop, then eventually dance music.
In 1995, I started collecting and DJing mainly electronic and experimental music. I guess I was what most people would consider a 'Bedroom DJ'.
Soon after, I got my own set of turntables & a mixer as well as collecting drum machines, cheap keyboards, and synths.
I started making shit loads of cassette mixtapes for the next few years, and in 2000, I sent a bunch of them to URB Magazine and was lucky enough to get my tapes reviewed in the publication under the moniker 'Abstract Mode' which featured artists like Machine Drum, Prefuse 73, DJ Krush, and personal influences like Aphex Twin, Autechre, Kraftwerk, and the like.
Shortly thereafter I started getting gigs in San Francisco and was fortunate enough to play alongside musicians like CHRIS CLARK, DAEDELUS, GOLD CHAINS, MIRA CALIX, MOCHIPET, SAFETY SCISSORS, TIPPER, TYCHO, & more. But, being that it was the early 2000's and this sort of exciting electronic music (IDM??) that was coming out at that time wasn't making me any money (which I needed of course), I decided to try my hand at more mainstream, danceable, clubby gigs.
So I started playing out more for that crowd, focusing on techno and electro, doing parties mainly in San Francisco.
I eventually started playing out more in San Jose and caught the eyes and ears of the Blank Club in the early 2000's, which I am still very closely associated with.
Since then i've tried out many differently themed DJ nights there- from No Wave/Post Punk nights to Soul/Oldies parties to All-Genre dance parties to electro parties like 'Victim' & more.
Around 2007, I was recruited by good pal 'DISASTER' to help out with up and coming music blog 'MISSINGTOOF'. During that period, I was exposed to so much dance music from around the globe, as we were bombarded with literally thousands of tracks on a weekly basis. During its existence, I honestly think that MISSINGTOOF was one of the biggest, brightest music blogs at the time. That was an amazing experience.
Presently, I have a weekly party, 'ATOMIC', that has been around for 9 years. Focusing on new wave, alternative, indie, and electronic music, it's one of the longest weeklies currently going in San Jose.
I'm also part of a monthly with other fellow friends and we all run a party called 'THE WORKOUT', focusing on indie & electro. We've had numerous special guests including BITFUNK, BRENMAR, CLASSIXX, THE JUAN MACLEAN, & LE CASTLEVANIA.
I also have various parties which I do with my partner Eric Belladonna, San Jose socialite extraordinaire. (Also part of The Workout Crew). We throw an electro party called 'ADULT DANCE PARTY, or, ADULT CLUB', with special guests like DESIGNER DRUGS & THE LIMOUSINES having played recently. We also throw 90's parties from time to time and those parties are bonkers. We plan on throwing other musically- themed events in the near future, including a disco/nu disco party.
