Born and raised in Stockton California, Dj Manuel C's career unknowingly began at the age of 11 with a 2 week stay at his uncles house in Fresno California. "It was a very hot summer that year" he explains. "That week changed my life forever." That's the week he discovered his true passion in life. His older cousins were up and coming dj's in the area and were preparing for an event at the county fairgrounds that weekend. "Seeing all those people dance to the sounds of perfectly mixed, non-stop music just blew my mind." He knew then what his life was going to be. Manuel had always had an ear for music and was now going forward with his dream.... He would eventually turn pro at the age of 18...

Flashing forward to his late teens and early twenties, Manuel explains that he was going to the local Jr. College part-time, working part-time at a music store (Rocket Records) and deejaying every opportunity he got. From house parties to quinceneras and back to his room to practice... "I would make mix tapes and give them out to friends for them to bump in their cars while cruising on Pacific Avenue or Charter Way in Stockton California." He remembers hearing a promo on KWIN saying they were having a dj mixing contest. "I was like 20 years old." Being the shy and quiet person he was, he didn't submit a mix tape thinking maybe it wasn't his time... On with life.... A week or so later, he receives a page from an unknown phone number. "I called the number back... It was KWIN!" They explained to him that they had received a mix tape with his name and number on it and that they would like to meet with him in person. "I was just thinking, there's no way." Turns out that one of his classmates had heard the same promo on the radio and submitted Manuel's mixed tape unbeknownst to him. "I joined the KWIN team and the rest is history"
