Doorknockers is a blog run for and by women and the larger hip hop nation. We are women raised on hip hop, make-practice hip hop, and critically love hip hop. It is a space for us to encourages others to stay critical of the hip hop they consume and create, the ways they measure happiness, and the patriarchy they allow to exist.
But of course we must practice what we preach. So we invite DJs every few months to create mixes of positive, constructive hip hop (and beyond) that is genuinely good. Listening to empowering music doesn't mean cutting out the fun and there are too many people who still seem to think that's how it works.
