Summer San Diego 2006: I was 21, had just graduated college... everything was lovely. or so I thought. To make a long story short... I didn't find a job that could support me after graduation. I didn't know what to do. I could no longer afford to live in SD. Ultimately I had to leave the city I loved so much.... destination unknown. I knew I couldnt even begin to take all my records with me... I could only take what I could fit in my car. I'd have to put the bulk of it in a cheap storage unit (which I still paying for... but at least I can support myself now!) along with the beautiful shelves my friend had just built for me and my records. I knew I had to make a mixtape before I left. I knew I had to choose wisely. The records I chose are all special to me... some of the first records I'd ever bought back in high school as well as many classics I found in San Diego. It was a pretty turbulent time for me, I was going through a lot mentally and was pretty depressed about having to leave what I'd been building behind. Catharsis was a response to what was happening in my life.
I recorded the Catharsis shortly before I drove across the country back to the East Coast... the start of a journey that has continued to this day...
"Just don't touch my records.... ever."
