“Dream” By Estria Miyashiro
If you’re in the SF/Bay Area on Friday, please join us in remembering and celebrating the Life & Legacy of Mike “Dream” Francisco – A True Graffiti King. Dream Day 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of Dream’s tragic murder, a killing that took a local legend. Recognized worldwide as a style master, and an artist way ahead of his time, Mike “Dream” helped define the Bay Area Hip Hop culture, and put Oakland on the map in the graffiti world. Some Dreams never die.
Dream Day 10 goes down February 5th at The New Parish in Oakland, California.
Full details below.
This a great event, for an even greater cause. All proceeds will benefit the Dream Legacy Fund and the Dream Book Fund. The Dream Legacy fund has been set up for Akil Francisco, Dream’s only son. Tragically, Akil has also just lost his mother, Nicole Sellers, to breast cancer. “Advanced Vandalism.” is the upcoming book about the life and work of Mike “Dream” Francisco.
Ten years ago I lost one of my best friends, Mike “Dream” Francisco. He was my partner in many monumental spray-can productions throughout California. Many that knew Mike “Dream”, and many more that only knew him by reputation, saw him as a pioneer of Bay Area graffiti, a Filipino icon, and a master of his craft.
Yes, I can agree with that, but I also saw much more than that in Mike. He was a true street smart hustler, always staying on top of the game, to improve life for himself and his family. A man willing to take the time to share his knowledge with others, not to benefit himself, but to uplift others to be the best they could be.
I can talk on and on about Mike “Dream”, but my suggestion is to know and study him, along with Bay Area Hip Hop history. If you can’t find those answers, ask someone. I share and hold many memories and values, as he did, and that is why I will always strive to be the best I can be. Mike “Dream” Francisco will forever live though my art.

Dream was king among kings. Here’s a great chance to learn about him, keep his legacy alive, and support both his son and the book about him. Please come thru!

I remember that beat up car that Mike had. I think that picture was taken at the “BV’s” in Alameda.
I still remember the day when Vogue called me about his death. I was late for work and haven’t got into uniform yet.
Mike always respected my goals and knew that I had to keep distance from time to time due to environment of ‘graffiti’.

i really miss my friend.
the long talks we used to have about art, women & life … they were well worth the 2hr long #72 bus ride from east oakland to hilltop mall in richmond.
i still have some of the sample airbrush stuff he gave me off the wall before he left shirtique.
