Mixcrate is an innovative and free, community-based, website that allows DJs to share their mixed sets with their peers and fans.

Sometimes people refer mixtapes as a compilation of single songs or playlists. We do not offer these types of 'mixtapes'. These types of mixtapes will be removed from our site. You can get those offerings on any music shuffle device or online playlist generator.

We only allow DJ mixes in our system. These are music tracks mixed together as one continuous track for the sole purpose of demonstrating a DJ's mixing skills and creative expression.

Please check to see if the mix set is playing faster than it is loading into the player. If this is the case, the player will stop loading, rewind to the beginning, and stop play.

In the case of a slow internet connection, pause the mix set and allow a significant portion (or the entire mix set) to load into the player and resume play. This will allow the mix set to play without interruption.

If a mix set has been uploaded and appears on Mixcrate.com, we have verified that the file is complete, and ready for listening and downloading.

If a mix set has been uploaded and appears on Mixcrate.com, we have verified that the file is complete, and ready for listening and downloading.

The mix sets on Mixcrate.com can be very large files. Because of this, with slower internet connections or interruptions, you may experience a problem downloading the entire file. If the internet connection is low or interrupts during the download process, the download will kill itself. As a result, the file will be unrecognizable on the computer system and useless.

Currently, the Mixcrate service is free.

Here's a great article from Apple Support on how to convert a song to a different file format using iTunes.

If your file is larger than 190 MB, you can use iTunes to reduce the file size.

The first thing you need to do is set a low bit rate for the mp3 encoder.

  1. Start iTunes
  2. On the menu bar, click iTunes -> Preferences... or Edit -> Preferences if you're using a PC.
  3. In the Preference window, click the "Advanced" button and then select the "Importing" tab.
  4. Now, click on the drop-down menu next to "Import using", and select "MP3 Encoder" from the list.
  5. Click on the drop-down menu next to "Settings" and select "Custom..." from the list.
  6. Click on the drop-down menu next to "Stereo Bit Rate" and select something like 112kbps or 96kbps. Press OK twice to confirm your changes and exit the Preference window. With a low bit rate set, you can now reduce the file size of the original mp3 file.
  7. In your iTunes library, find the 950 KB file and click on it once so that it becomes highlighted or selected. Now right-click on the file and select "Convert Selection to MP3..." from the drop-down list. iTunes will now produce a new mp3 file with a smaller file size.

You can give your mixes a "tag", which is like a keyword or category label. Tags help users find mixes on Mixcrate based on searches. You can assign up to 75 tags to each mix.
