THE BLEND KING DJ I AM 's Bio
DJ I AM

Currently Representing: Tampa, FL
What is the significance of your name and how did you get it?
My name is DJ I AM aka THE BLEND KING DJ I AM. The significance of my name is that it comes from The Bible: Specifically Deuteronony 28:10-12, Numbers 6:27, & Exodus 3:14.
What kind of music do you like to play the most?
Hip-Hop, R&B, & Gospel
(But I Also Play A Lot of Reggae, Reggaeton, Salsa, Country, Dance, & Top 40)
What made you interested in DJing?
I feel in love with DJing when I first fell in love with Hip-Hop. I use to buy albums, tapes, mixtapes and tape DJs on the radio in NY. I first knew I wanted to be a DJ when I saw Jam Master Jay of (Run DMC) perform at Madison Square Garden. My favorite DJs go way back to people like DJ Hollywood (Hip-Hop Founder!) DJ Charlie Chase (Cold Crush Bros.), Grand Master Flash, Kool DJ Red Alert, Mr. Magic & Marly Marl, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ S&S, DJ Clue, Funkmaster Flex, DJ Ron G, DJ Kid Capri, and my list goes on....
How long have you been a DJ?
More than 10 years.
Where are your favorite venues to spin at?
I like to spin where people really come to PARTY!! I don't like venues where people are fronting like they are too cool or too important to get on the dance floor and throw down! If you can envision Nelly's "Hot In Herre" or Jay-z's "Roc Boys" video those are my favorite types of venues. LOL I still have some dream venues that I would like to spin at too, like: Madison Square Garden, Essence Music Festival, BET & MTV Spring Break, Tom Joyner Cruise, Grammy Awards, European Stadiums, The Super Bowl...LOL you get the idea...I'm working to be BIG!!
Outside of work, do you ever go out to clubs?
Yes, not often but I do get out. I like places like: Prana, Boomerang, Whiskey North In Tampa, (But I Mostly Like To Go To Clubs When They Book Me!!)
Do you take music requests?
It depends on the venue! If i'm spinning at a wedding, birthday party, or corporate event - Definitely!! I think at private events taking requests helps make the party better. At clubs or large public events I usually just read the crowd and do work!
What's the craziest thing you've seen while you were working?
I've Seen A LOT Of Crazy Stuff, But most recently a guy and his girl came to my booth, he stood behind her, wrapped his arms around her, and they both started shaking her double D boobs at me asking me to put my face in them and then asking me to autograph her chest. Crazy!! LOL
What's been your biggest gig so far?
The Gasparilla Parade in Tampa (Imagine Mardi Gras In Florida)...300,000 People In Attendance.
When you are up there, do you have a playlist or do you read the crowd?
I usually have a few songs in mind that I want to play, but I read and move the crowd!!
Best DJ experience?
Every experience is a blessing. But the first time I ever made a few Grand($) to spin definitely comes to mind. I totally love what I do!
Do you prefer playing at clubs or bigger events?
I like both but I prefer bigger events. I want to be an international music and movie star, so bigger venues move me closer to my goals. Clubs can be great too, if the booth & house equipment are proper and as long as the owner / promoter don't give a problem when it comes to getting my money! LOL
With so much music now a days have you gone to Serato or do you still carry the old fashion milk crates?
I use to love digging in the crates but I hated carrying them to gigs! I'm soooo glad those days are definitely over. I work with M-audio's Torq & Serato The technology is amazing especially since I'm a DJ & a VJ.
What DJs do you look up to?
A lot of them but my here's my top - (not necessarily in order) Jam Master Jay, DJ Doo Wop, DJ Clue, DJ S&S, Funkmaster Flex, Kid Capri, DJ Green Lantern, DJ Kayslay, DJ Ron G, DJ Hollywood, DJ Ted Smooth, DJ Premier, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Scratch, DJ Q-Bert, DJ Bobby Konders, DJ Red Alert, Marly Marl, Mister Magic.
Are you associated with or are you part of any groups in the music industry?
Party 101 Productions, LLC (Owner & Founder), The ADJA, Slip N' Slide DJs, A&R DJs
Would you or do you work with any radio station in the Tampa Bay area?
I don't currently, but I actually would love to work for a radio station in Tampa. Those that come to mind in no particular order of preference are Wild 94.1, 93.3 FLZ, & 95.7 The Beat. I listen to them and I like them. Frequently my people tell me that I would be great on the radio because they think I'm witty.
What are your future plans?
To Become An International Superstar DJ / Producer / & Record Executive. I'd Eventually Like To Act On Television & Movies Too.
