I got this dj thang from my uncle Aries who's a dj on his disco mobile group called "SiOuX" way back in the early 80's. I accidentally saw him play with the turntables in his room and as a newbee i was amazed, can't figure out how he mixed the music that it turn out so good and endless. I love music and for what i saw was very interesting and make me curious enough to try it.
In the mid 80's i've joined up with my classmate and best friend Dj Manny, we formed a disco mobile, that provides lights and sound equipment services on almost any venue, streets, suburbs, hotels, either private or public events, we're there to light up the party.
Sometimes we've organized house parties not just to have a good time, but to meet people and make some extra money so we can upgrade the equipments. We started from scratch, don't have much cash for pro equipment so we improvised ourselves with home entartainment system that we barrowed from our families and friends.
It was realy hard back then like just the two of us doin the work. Carrying the equipment to the car, driving, then setting it up at the venue. Carrying those large speakers, lights, cables, vinyl crates and a dj's console that weighs a ton and still managed to focus on the program with a smile. .
As for the lighting equipment, light scanners, strobe lights and a mirror ball that i remember Dj Manny put more than 1000 pieces of 1/2inch square-cut mirrors that it was all done hand-made by himself.
My part was handling the sound system and still studying the art of mixing vinyls, 45's, cassette tapes, round dial tempo belt-drive turntables were the things we've used from the start. Jurrassic stuff but somehow managed to make the crowd stand up, dance and get wild .
From there we found other groups who help us out handling large functions and came out close to the pro's helping each other, discovering new tools, hoping someday we can afford such modern equipments. Before gettin into the 90's, we've joined forces with the "Wedge Mobile", members were closed family friend and we became the 2nd batch of the group.
By the year 2000, hope came true using compact light-weight equipments, laser lights, cdj unit to lighten the load and making the job more easier. I lie low by 2003, i became a cellphone tech, owned a small shop which includes some of my other hobbies like hand-painting t-shirts and jeans, selling anime stuffs and collectible toys.
It was Dj Manny kept the disco mobile going through these past years. When times he needed my help i managed to squeeze in, excited to work again with the group handling new equipements. Somehow todays disco mobiles comes in small sizes but pack with loud sounds, thats were the changes and i missed the good old days, but the spirit we have for the group was always there to stay.
When you love music and had some stuff to play with it, you won't get enough playing it to the listeners, music never dies and it's there to keep you company on any mood your in.
