Under The Table. The name really fits this talented group of DJs. These individuals have banded together not only as musicians, but as a family united under the traditional instrument of the DJ, the turntable. The group was officially created in 2005, but all the members have been djing since the mid to late 1990s. Blame the highly influential Westcoast DJ crews at the time such as the Beat Junkies and the Invisbl Skratch Piklz for creating offsprings such as this group. Originally, the members of Under The Table were from two different crews: SKOR, KEX KUGER, & JOE.U.KNO were from one dj crew, and BUTCH, BOOGIE RONSTA, & KUT KAOS were from another dj crew. With much respect towards each other, the two crews began to have jam (“Skratch”) sessions and rock parties together all over the South Bay, Los Angeles, and Orange County. The crews also met DSTRUKT in this process and decided to officially invite this gifted DJ from San Jose to join this growing collective, along with LFT (Lawrence from Torrance) who had been down with both crews even before they had even done anything together. After a long run of many mobile gigs, small events, free gigs, taking pay cuts, carrying heavy crates of records and equipment up and down long stairways, four turntable set ups, and figuring out how to fit large speakers in the back of an already tightly packed truck bed, the eight individuals talked it over and they decided to unite as a crew to represent the DJ in a dormant Hiphop culture.
BUTCH broke into his first regular club gig in Long Beach in 2006, and soon after he got the crew their first regular club gig at the same spot. Under The Table caught everyone’s attention with their ability to be versatile on the turntables, and being balanced with each member having their own style to show off every night. Pine Avenue in Long Beach began to recognize the Under The Table crew after djing various clubs up and down the street. After much respect from their peers and predecessors the crew began to solidify their name by getting offers to spin all over Southern California.
